Challenge
| The Commonwealth of Virginia’s executive branch delivers services to its citizens through 61 agencies staffed by 56,000+ employees. The commonwealth made the decision to move from one long-term information technology infrastructure supplier to a multisupplier environment with oversight and governance provided by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA). Verizon had an existing contract in place to provide the primary telecommunications network service. That contract was modified for Verizon to supply voice and data networking, including network, customer premise equipment, and advanced communications and collaboration services in the new environment.. |
- Needed agile services with transparency into project status and cost
- Required new capabilities and upgrades to end-of-life equipment
- Desired streamlined implementation processes to improve productivity
Outcome
- Streamlined migration by retaining Verizon and its knowledge of the Commonwealth infrastructure and equipment
- Developed a multi-supplier environment in which Verizon works in concert with peer organizations
- Opened access to advanced communications and collaboration for state employees via UCaaS
- Maintained statewide infrastructure enabling agencies to scale and adopt new technologies when needed
- Gained cost and budget predictability with pay-for-use model of cloud-based networking across the life of the contract
