Important Information About Medicare Part A & B
In general, you are enrolled automatically in Medicare Part A and most individuals entitled to Part A also are automatically enrolled in Part B. You need to be enrolled in Part B to avoid missing important benefits under the Verizon retiree medical plan. You will receive benefits from Medicare Part B only if you are enrolled in Part B. When you have a medical claim, Medicare pays first. Then the Verizon plan pays a benefit, if any. Benefits normally payable under Medicare will not be paid by the Verizon plan even if you do not enroll in Medicare Part B. Therefore, you must enroll in Medicare Part B as soon as you are eligible.
Remember that you must be enrolled for Part A and Part B in order for your Medicare benefits to be coordinated appropriately with Verizon coverage. Failure to enroll in Medicare Part B may result in significant out-of-pocket expenses.
More information is available in the "Coordination of Benefits with Medicare" section in your Summary Plan Description (SPD) benefits document. Your SPDs are on the BenefitsConnection Web site at www.verizon.com/benefitsconnection (user ID and password required)
