Mobile Strategies to Finally Eliminate the Desk Phone
8:00 AM – 8:45 AM, Monday, March 18
Since the advent of the cell phone and its phenomenal uptake in the enterprise, many users have wondered why we can’t simply eliminate the private branch exchange (PBX) and use mobile exclusively. While we may not be at a transition point yet, we are starting to see service provider offerings—from traditional telcos, unified communications as a service (UCaaS) providers and others—that will meet the needs of certain classes of users or “mobile use cases.” However, the challenge becomes understanding what each of these offerings provides, what its limitations are and which use cases could benefit from the service. This session is designed to bring you up to speed on what’s been going on in the way of enterprise-oriented mobile services, how the major classes of these offerings compare and what use cases might best be addressed by each.

Communications & Collaboration:
What’s the Way Forward?
10:15 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, March 18
Communications is no longer an information technology (IT) silo, but rather a software capability easily consumable from the cloud and ready for integration within business applications and processes. At the same time, communications and collaboration platforms are gaining in strategic importance, becoming centralized hubs for getting work done. Finally, modern communications and collaboration capabilities are essential for companies seeking to achieve highly sought improvements in customer experience and employee productivity, and can be critical enablers for digital transformation. In this session, industry leaders will debate and discuss the future role communications and collaboration technology and products will play within forward-looking enterprises.

SIP Trunking Services Update
8:00 AM – 8:45 AM, Wednesday, March 20
If you still have legacy time-division multiplexing (TDM) trunks within your enterprise wide area network (WAN), you’re not alone—but you’re also overdue for a serious push to convert those trunks to session initiation protocol (SIP). Cost savings continue to be the most compelling reason to target legacy trunks for upgrade, but there are other reasons as well. In addition, if you operate a multinational network, SIP trunks are becoming more available in regions of the world outside North America. All in all, SIP trunks continue to be a crucial element when it comes to modernizing your communications infrastructure and controlling the costs of that infrastructure. In this session, leading consultants in the field of SIP trunking services will help you make your plan of attack for SIP trunks. You’ll come away better prepared to procure and stand up a SIP trunk-based WAN where you’ve been relying on legacy primary rate interfaces (PRIs) for too long.

Cloud Communications Cost Management
3:00 PM – 3:45 PM, Wednesday, March 20
As cloud-based communications and applications become more pervasive, new challenges arise in managing the array of services and costs in this new, decentralized information technology (IT) environment. Services and subscriptions are not always ordered exclusively by the IT department. When IT is involved, one of the drivers toward cloud services is to be “out of the business” of providing that service. This fragmented, hands-off approach to IT can create a perfect storm of underutilized or redundant services, and unexpectedly climbing costs. A leading consultant together with a panel of cloud service providers will discuss costs, contract terms and service level agreements (SLAs) in the new cloud environment. You’ll come away with a better idea of where to look to identify the sources of cloud communications spending within your enterprise, and steps you can take to gain better control of this spend.
Michelle Russell: Managing Director, Business Communications, Verizon
Understanding the financial benefits of moving unified communications and collaboration (UC&C) to the cloud is not merely moving costs from one side of the ledger to another. Customers must first understand the business outcomes they are looking to accomplish. In her role as Verizon’s Global Collaboration Practice Lead, Michelle works with Verizon’s Enterprise customers to holistically vet cloud solutions and their impact to bottom lines, performance and an organization’s culture. Before moving to Verizon in 2010, Michelle spent much of her career focused on assisting mid-size customers make UC&C decisions.
What You’ll Wish You Knew About 5G
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 21
While most enterprises have been able to ignore cellular infrastructure issues, that will change with 5G. The combination of small cells and higher frequencies will mean that equipment and cabling will need to be installed within buildings if users are going to get the full benefit of 5G mobile technology. Even customers with current-generation distributed antenna systems (DAS) will not be able to get the full power of 5G indoors with their legacy deployments. The solution enterprises must envision with indoor small cells will look much like Wi-Fi deployments. This session will help you prepare for the issues that will arise as 5G becomes a reality. You’ll learn about the likely impacts on your networks, facilities and end users—as well as the consequences of not staying abreast of the new generation of technology.
