This is my 3rd KYOCERA and have been pleased with all of them. This latest one did have some issues to begin with. After I (the phone) had an update upgrade the phone works much better. My phone's have a tough life. My work is hard on them and my time away from work can be even tougher. I did break the screen on my last KYOCERA. It cracked after being dropped from the top of a dump truck bed. The person on the ground said it hit directly on the corner. The screen only cracked did not shatter. I have noticed that if the screen has nastiness on it the phone will do weird things. Sometimes you have to turn the pocket and glove mode off and on. I was a diehard Motorola fan and do still like Motorola phones, I just like KYOCERA better.

Will you tell me if the microphone turns OFF when the phone is turned off, or does it remain open and actively listening as iPhone does regardless of it being on or off?

Kyocera phones will not enable the microphones when they are powered off. If you wish to be extremely cautious, you could purchase a DuraForce PRO 3, which has a removable battery. That would allow you to remove the battery after you power off the phone. Kyocera

They said the screen was virtually indestructible, well 5 phones with 5 broken screens says otherwise. Not to mention the phone has a mind of its own. My husband is a steel worker who needs a device that is tougher than most. Verizon recommended the kyocera duraforce ultra 5G, they said the glass was indestructible and could withstand being ran over by a full size pickup truck. The video from Kyocera was well made and pretty convincing so we bought in. My husband had a cracked screen within 6 months and within 2 years he is on his 5th one. The 4th and 5th devices have a mind of their own. The devices opens apps, makes calls and texts randomly to random people. The current phone, (5th one) is the 2nd device that has this malfunction. It's not very professional to be in a meeting and have your phone randomly open youtube and start playing blackened by Metallica in front of your CEO. Lol. I wish this phone held up to the advertisement Kyocera made. It is not virtually indestructible. It's just as easy to break the screen. Oh and when you do, there is no taking it for a quick screen repair, you need a new device. Each time we have to file a claim and pay $370 so in total we have spent $2,379.99 on an $899.99 device. We wanted the Kyocera Duraforce Ultra 5G to live up to the hype but it failed miserably. My husband loved the device funcontionality for the most part but unfortunately he is looking into a different brand with a strong phone protector that a hardworking man can use and not worry about it breaking or randomly opening apps and making calls on its own.

DuraForce Ultra 5G is designed and tested to withstand drops of up to 1.5m onto concrete. The Sapphire Shield screen is almost scratch proof since it is second to diamond in the hardness scale. However, it is not shatter proof. The phone's housing is designed to provide protection to the screen, but if the screen is impacted it can break. We're sorry to learn that your husband has broken so many screens and paid so much to have them replaced in spite of paying for insurance. We recommend that customers who break their screens contact our customer support team directly at 1-800-349-4478, or through our support page kyoceramobile.com/contactus/support/, to inquire about Kyocera's Standard 2-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty which comes with every DuraForce Ultra we sell. If a particular cracked screen is covered under the warranty, the phone will be replaced free of charge. If the cracked screen is not covered under the warranty, the customer has the option of replacing the phone for the cost of repairing the screen which is currently $333. The problems your husband had with the later devices opening apps on their own could also be covered under the warranty because of that behavior. I like it. It's a little quirky. I just got a major OS upgrade, think it's still android 11 but it looks like 13. The bottom line is, I've dropped, thrown, fallen on it, I mean it's had the living poopoo beaten out of it and I just buff it up with a microfiber rag and it looks like new. And it's got no case or screen protector

Worse phone EVER!!!

Where to begin, I'm on my 4th one since the release date. Phone activates apps on its own, along with not opening apps I actually click on. This phone does not make it easy to text or make/receive calls. I have constantly tried dealing with Verizon on the matter and get nowhere and have been a member for 14yrs. Went through manufacturer warranty at one point and they made matters worse. Battery overheats constantly , even while it's not in use along with the draining of the battery being quick versus long lasting. Very delayed reaction time after I click on anything. The phone at times will just power off for no reason and turn itself back on. I cannot stand this phone in the worse way and Kyocera not Verizon seem to care enough to resolve it. Customer service use to be prime time here at Verizon and Kyocera but the past 2yrs has been nothing but problems to the point where I want to leave and find new service an phone.

I had a Duraforce prior to this phne and liked it. Thus version is terrible. The screenn is not responsive at times. The keyboards are terrible. The screen will 'shake,'. Battery life is poor.

Is the main difference between the screens on the duramax 3 and 5 they both have different types of protection but I couldn’t find any description of the difference

If comparing the difference in screens between the DuraForce Ultra 5G and the DuraForce Pro 3, they have the same resolution and are about the same size (5.45" vs 5.38" respectively). The Pro 3 has a Corning Gorilla Glass screen and offers better color, contrast, and durability against scratches. The Ultra 5G has a Sapphire Shield screen which does still offer scratch resistance. -Lauren
