Kyocera phones will not enable the microphones when they are powered off. If you wish to be extremely cautious, you could purchase a DuraForce PRO 3, which has a removable battery. That would allow you to remove the battery after you power off the phone.

DuraForce Ultra 5G is designed and tested to withstand drops of up to 1.5m onto concrete. The Sapphire Shield screen is almost scratch proof since it is second to diamond in the hardness scale. However, it is not shatter proof. The phone's housing is designed to provide protection to the screen, but if the screen is impacted it can break. We're sorry to learn that your husband has broken so many screens and paid so much to have them replaced in spite of paying for insurance. We recommend that customers who break their screens contact our customer support team directly at 1-800-349-4478, or through our support page kyoceramobile.com/contactus/support/, to inquire about Kyocera's Standard 2-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty which comes with every DuraForce Ultra we sell. If a particular cracked screen is covered under the warranty, the phone will be replaced free of charge. If the cracked screen is not covered under the warranty, the customer has the option of replacing the phone for the cost of repairing the screen which is currently $333. The problems your husband had with the later devices opening apps on their own could also be covered under the warranty because of that behavior. Is the main difference between the screens on the duramax 3 and 5 they both have different types of protection but I couldn’t find any description of the difference
If comparing the difference in screens between the DuraForce Ultra 5G and the DuraForce Pro 3, they have the same resolution and are about the same size (5.45" vs 5.38" respectively). The Pro 3 has a Corning Gorilla Glass screen and offers better color, contrast, and durability against scratches. The Ultra 5G has a Sapphire Shield screen which does still offer scratch resistance. -Lauren
