Create and Send a Text Message

Follow these instructions to send a text message from your Apple® iPhone®.

Before you begin

When a message is sent from your iPhone, the message type (e.g., iMessage®, SMS, etc.) is indicated by differing colors.
Refer to this Apple support page for more info on Messages via Satellite.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Messages app
    .
  2. Tap the
    Compose Message icon
    .
  3. Enter the phone number in the To field.
    To send a message to an existing contact, tap the
    Plus icon
     then select the contact.
  4. Enter the message then tap the
    Send icon
    .
    To schedule a message with Send Later, tap the
    Plus icon
     then tap
    Send Later
     to set a date and time.
