Activate / Set Up Device

Activate your Apple® iPhone® 8 / 8 Plus to get started. This ensures you can make calls, send messages, and connect to the internet.

Before you begin

If this is an upgrade or your phone was not activated when purchased, refer to the activate a new iPhone.
Verify the Find My app (formerly known as Find My iPhone) is off then power off the old device before activating the new iPhone.
If activation is performed with an incorrect Apple ID or different number, erase all content and settings then sign in with the correct Apple ID.

Steps

  1. Press the
    Power button
     to power on the iPhone.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to choose a language then tap the country or region.
  3. From the Quick Start screen, tap
    Set Up Manually
    .
  4. Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  5. From the Data & Privacy section, tap
    Continue
    .
  6. To set up Touch ID, tap
    Continue
     then follow the onscreen instructions.
  7. Enter a 6-digit passcode or tap
    Passcode Options
     to select a different method (e.g., 4-Digit Code, Don't Use Passcode, etc.).
  9. Enter your Apple ID and password then tap
    Next

    If you have an Apple ID already in use on another device, a verification code is sent to that device; you must enter this code to proceed with activation.
    If you don't have an Apple ID or have forgotten your sign in info, tap Forgot password or Apple ID or Create a Free Apple ID.
  10. Review the Terms and Conditions, tap
    Agree
     then follow the onscreen prompts (i.e. Update Your iPhone Automatically, Location Services, etc.) to customize more features.
  11. Once setup is completed, on the Welcome to iPhone screen swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get started using your iPhone.
