Add / Remove Face ID

Use Face ID on your Apple® iPhone® to secure your device and personal info. If you decide to switch methods, you can delete your face data anytime.

Before you begin

Availability of some features may depend on iOS version and iPhone model. For Touch ID, refer to Set Touch ID Preferences.
Ensure a passcode is set up.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Tap
    Face ID & Passcode
    .
  3. Enter the current passcode, then do one of the following:
    • For first-time setup:
      1. Tap
        Set Up Face ID
        .
      2. Tap
        Get Started
         then follow the onscreen instructions.
      3. If prompted, select one of the following:
        • Use Face ID with a Mask
        • Don't Use Face ID with a Mask
        • Set Up Later
      4. Tap
        Done
        .
    • To add an alternate appearance:
      1. Tap
        Set Up an Alternate Appearance
        .
      2. Tap
        Get Started
         then follow the onscreen instructions.
    • To remove face data:
      1. Tap
        Reset Face ID
        .
