Factory Data Reset (Powered Off)

Reset your Galaxy S20+ 5G / S20 Ultra 5G to factory settings as a final troubleshooting step. Use this method if your device is unresponsive or you can't access the Settings menu.

Before you begin

If the device is responsive and can be powered on, the preferred reset method should be performed.
Perform a factory data reset only if necessary as it removes your Google™ account and all data including system data, app data and media.
For devices with Android™ Device Protection turned on, it's essential that Google sign-in credentials are known prior to completing a factory reset with the device powered off. If credentials are unknown, do one of the following:
If a pattern, PIN, etc. is or has ever been set up on the device, Google account sign-in is required during initial setup.

Steps

  1. With the device powered off, simultaneously press and hold the
    Volume up button
    and
    Power / Side button
    until the device vibrates and the Android Recovery screen appears then release all buttons.
  2. From the Android Recovery screen, select
    Wipe data/factory reset
    .
    Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Side button to select.
  3. Select
    Factory data reset
    .
  4. Select
    Reboot system now
    then allow several minutes for the reboot process to complete.
