Before you begin

An alternate method is available if the device is unresponsive or won't power on.

Steps

  1. With the device powered on, simultaneously press and hold the
    Power / Side button
     and the
    Volume down button
    until the 'Power off' prompt appears onscreen then release.
  2. Touch and hold
    Power off
     until the 'Safe mode' prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap the
    Safe mode icon
     then wait for the device to reboot and 'Safe mode' appears in the lower left of the unlock / Home screen.
  5. To exit Safe Mode, restart the device.
