View / Restrict Data Usage by App

Apps use data differently, sometimes more than you expect. Follow these steps to control which apps on your Pixel 7 / 7 Pro are allowed to use data in the background.

Before you begin

Some apps need background data. Restricting data may cause them not to work without a Wi-Fi connection.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Do any of the following:
    • To restrict mobile data usage:
      1. Navigate:
        Network & internet
        SIMs
        .
      2. Tap the SIM name (e.g., Verizon, etc.) then tap
        App data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
      4. If presented, review the message then tap
        OK
        .
    • To restrict Wi-Fi data usage:
      1. Navigate:
        Network & internet
        Internet
        .
      2. Scroll down if needed, then tap
        Non-carrier data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
      4. If presented, review the message then tap
        OK
        .
