Add / Remove Face Recognition

Use facial recognition on your Pixel 8 / 8 Pro to secure your device and personal info. If you decide to switch methods, you can delete your face data anytime.

Before you begin

Ensure a secure lock screen (e.g., PIN, pattern, etc.) is set up.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Navigate:
    Security & privacy
    Device unlock
    Face
    .
  3. Enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Tap
    Face Unlock
    .
  5. Do one of the following:
    • For first-time setup:
      1. Review the info then tap
        I agree
        .
      2. Review the info then tap
        Start
        .
      3. To help improve Pixel applications and services, read the disclaimer then tap
        I agree
        .
      4. Align your face within the circle and follow onscreen prompts until the process is complete.
    • To remove face data:
      1. Tap
        Delete face model
        .
      2. To confirm, review the disclaimer then tap
        Delete
        .
