Apps use data differently, sometimes more than you expect. Follow these steps to control which apps on your 8 / 8 Pro are allowed to use data in the background..

Before you begin

Some apps need background data. Restricting data may cause them not to work without a Wi-Fi connection.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Tap
    Network & internet
     then do any of the following:
    • To view / restrict cellular data:
      1. Tap
        SIMs
         then tap the SIM name (e.g., Verizon, etc.).
      2. Tap
        App data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
      4. If presented, review the message then tap
        OK
        .
    • To view / restrict Wi-Fi data:
      1. Tap
        Internet
        .
      2. Tap
        Non-carrier data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
      4. If presented, review the message then tap
        OK
        .
