Transfer SIM / eSIM (Bring Your Own Device)

Transferring your SIM card or eSIM ensures you keep your existing phone number and service when activating your Samsung BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) smartphone.
Verify you have one of the following Android™ devices:
BYOD Requirements
Target Device (the BYOD device that you want to transfer the eSIM or physical SIM to.)
Source Device (Source device is the previous Android device with an active line)
Requirements
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
Samsung Galaxy S25 Series
Google Pixel 5 and newer
Motorola
Orbic
TCL
A previous Android device with an active line.
Minimum of One UI 6.1 and GMS Play Service v23.45.23.
Only unlocked devices are eligible for dual SIM functionality.
  • Phones purchased directly from Verizon are unlocked 60 days after purchase.
  • For phones purchased from another carrier, refer to the lock policies for AT&T or T-Mobile.
Before completing the steps below, verify both devices:
  • have the screen passcode enabled.
  • are connected to Wi-Fi.
    During the initial setup process if unable to connect to an available Wi-Fi network, tap
    skip
    to continue setup using the cellular network.
  • are charged and kept close together while the SIM / eSIM transfers.

Transfer During Initial Setup - QR Code

  1. From the Easy setup with another device screen, tap
    Galaxy or Android device
    .
    A QR code appears on the new device screen. If a verification code appears, refer to the Transfer During Initial Setup - Verification Code section below.
  2. From the source device:
    1. Tap
      Set up
      .
    2. Open the QR scanner and scan the QR code from the new device.
  3. Allow for the eSIM to transfer then tap
    Done
    .

Transfer During Initial Setup - Verification Code

  1. From the Connect to a mobile network screen, tap
    Transfer SIM from another device
    .
  2. To proceed, review the info screens until a verification code displays.
  3. From the source device, tap
    Transfer
    then enter the verification code.
    If a QR code appears, refer to the Transfer During Initial Setup - QR Code section above.
  4. From the new device, tap the SIM to be used then tap
    Transfer
    .
  5. From the source device, tap
    Confirm
    .
  6. Allow for the eSIM to transfer then tap
    Done
    .
  7. Continue setup on your new device.

Transfer Using SIM Manager

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Navigate:
    Connections
    SIM manager
    Add eSIM
  3. Tap
    Transfer SIM from another device
    .
  4. To proceed, review the info screens until a verification code displays.
  5. From the source device, tap
    Transfer
    then enter the verification code.
  6. From the new device, tap the Carrier name (e.g., Verizon) then tap
    Transfer
    .
  7. From the source device, tap
    Confirm
    .
  8. Allow for the eSIM to transfer then tap
    Done
    .
  9. To use the eSIM, tap the switch to the right of corresponding carrier to turn on.
