Apps use data differently, sometimes more than you expect. Follow these steps to control which apps on your Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL are allowed to use data in the background.

Before you begin

Some apps need background data. Restricting data may cause them not to work without a Wi-Fi connection.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Tap
    Network & internet
    .
  3. Do any of the following:
    • For Mobile Data Usage:
      1. Tap
        SIMs
        .
      2. Tap the SIM name (e.g., Verizon, etc.) then tap
        App data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
    • For Wi-Fi Data Usage:
      1. Tap
        Internet
        .
      2. Tap
        Non-carrier data usage
        .
      3. Tap an app located below the usage graph then view the usage.
        To restrict the app from using data in the background, tap the
        Background data switch
         to turn off.
