Move Media Files to / from Computer

Connecting your Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL to a computer allows you to move photos, videos, or music to free up storage space or back them up to make sure your files are safe.

Before you begin

If using a Macintosh® computer, additional software is required to transfer files.

Steps

  1. Connect your phone to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
    1. If necessary, touch and hold the
      Status Bar
      then drag to the bottom.
    2. Tap the
      Android system icon
      that reads 'Charging this device via USB'.
    3. Tap
      File transfer / Android Auto
      .
  2. From your computer, open File Explorer or Windows Explorer.
  3. Using File Explorer or Windows Explorer, from the 'Devices and drives' section navigate:
    Pixel 9
    Internal shared storage
    .
  4. Use the computer to copy media files between the applicable folder (e.g., DCIM/Camera, Download, Movies, etc.) on the device and the desired location on the computer's hard drive.
