Start Satellite SOS (Android)For select Android™ devices, Satellite SOS allows you to contact emergency services in the event you are out of a cellular or Wi-Fi coverage area.
Before you begin
To use Satellite SOS, the following requirement must be met:
- Must be outside with a clear line of sight to satellite.
- Must have a Satellite Messaging capable device.
- Active service with cellular data turned on.
- Satellite messaging won't work if the device is in Airplane Mode.
- Must be in the contiguous United States or Hawaii and Alaska (may not work in parts of Alaska).
Steps
- While in an area with no service, dial 911. (If service is available, use the standard Verizon network to make the call).An option to use Satellite SOS appears in the dialer when the phone detects an attempt to make an emergency call without a network connection.
- TapSatellite SOS, selectUse Satellite SOSand tapStart.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to fill out the emergency questionnaire.
- An option displays to share info with the users’ dedicated emergency contacts. Tap eitherNotifyorDon’t notifyto send the info to them.
- Follow the instructions on the phone and position the phone as prompted.
- Stay outside with a clear view of the sky and await responses from the emergency provider.
