Determine Cellular Capabilties

Follow these steps to tell what your moto watch ultra can do when your phone is turned on or off.

Initial Activation

  • The companion smartphone must be:
    • powered on.
    • have the Moto Watch app installed.
    • on Android™ 12.0 or later.
    • connected to Wi-Fi or a mobile network.
    • connected to the watch via Bluetooth®.
  • Both devices (smartphone and watch) must be charged and kept close together while they are paired and synced.

Calls (Incoming / Outgoing)

  • The companion smartphone:
    • can be powered off.
    • doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
  • The watch must be connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.

SMS Messages (Send / Receive)

  • The watch must be connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.
  • The companion smartphone:
    • Messages by Google must be the default messaging app.
    • doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
    • must be powered on.
      The watch can send SMS messages while the smartphone is powered off; however, they are sent from the watch's mobile number rather than the smartphone's number.

Third-party App Notifications

  • The watch must be connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.
  • The companion smartphone must be on, but doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
