Poor battery life, camera failed, and black screen
Robt · 4 months ago
I wouldn't buy this phone again. After 1.5 years the zoom on the camera doesn't work, the battery life has gotten to only about 4 hours and the screen turns black and I need to restart it.

4 Up to 10 W with Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL charging with Pixel Stand (Sold separately). Actual results may vary.

The WORST phone and WORST customer service
Tacobelle · 1 year ago
I got my phone in March of 2020 and within 2 months the camera stopped working completely. I asked to trade it in, and they had me try to get the camera repaired first. I did, and it never worked. I decided to just live with it even though it was really the thing i loved most in the first place about this phone. In Febuary of 2021 the battery got all screwy and would display as 50% no matter how long the phone had been on or off a charger. It would ONLY say 50%. I would just keep it on the charger pretty much full time to combat this essentially making this a landline because i never knew if it REALLY was charging or not so i didn't dare take it off the charger. Three days ago, it shut off and now will no longer charge at all. When plugged in it simply displays a freakin "?" in the battery icon like my phone is The Riddler. I owned a Pixel 2xl for a few years and that phone was AMAZING so upgrading just made sense to me. It was the worst phone related decision of my life. Now they want me to pay to replace it even though it's been a piece of trash from the start and it SHOULD be documented as such with how many times I've had to contact support.
Horrible Phone
badphone · 1 year ago
My husband has had this phone for close to a year and a half. It was a Christmas present after he had had his pixel 2 for 2 years, so I thought it was time for him to upgrade. He loved the pixel 2 and never had an issue. The pixel 4 is total garbage. We had to pay for a replacement through insurance this time last year because the battery was stuck at 50% and would die if it wasn’t plugged into the charger. Even when it was plugged in it may or may not work. The replacement phone worked for a few months, and then the same stuff started again. The only good thing about it is the camera, but so many phones now have great cameras. He said he cannot wait until he can get rid of this dumb phone and get something completely different. I don’t think he will ever own another google phone after this one. It’s that bad.
Buggy, glitchy mess. Do not recommend at all. Lengthy review.

I'm waiting on my 3rd replacement for this phone. I got this phone on release day, and it was wonderful for a year. When October 2020 hit, I began to run into problems such as a non-responsive screen, random black screens, and visual glitches like the pixels on the screen looking scrambled. Eventually I ran into a bug where my battery could not properly be read and was stuck at 50% battery no matter how much I charged it. I restarted, then got a battery symbol with a ? symbol inside of it. Went to get a replacement. I had not put my phone through any abuse to cause this. One could easily just say perhaps I was careless with my device despite that claim. However after receiving my replacement, I had immediate glitches on boot-up. A non-responsive screen at times. The drop menu glitching around when I tried to use it. Some apps instantly crash upon opening, like the camera. And then on the following day, my phone went completely black and would not respond to anything. It would not power on. It would not charge. Verizon could not replace my bricked device because it was too soon from my first replacement (literally less than a week). And man. Does this phone get hot. I get worried it's going to overheat from just charging it alone. On the positive side, when the phone works it's lovely. The pictures are detailed and can be contoured to your photography style. Google Assistant is built-in and quick to respond. In fact, I had not used the Assistant much prior to getting this phone. The radar on the phone to track your eyes and hands so it knows when you unlock is a nice quality of life change. The phone is okay. It has lovely positives. But the downsides way outweigh it. Having to constantly replace it due to hardware failures. Being shipped another faulty device. Apps and software failing to open. Unremarkable specs given its price. A phone hotter than Arizona in the middle of summer. I fully expect this 3rd device I receive to be faulty as well. I'd upload videos/pics of this device messing up, but my only device with a camera /was/ this phone. But you can easily google or look at the other reviews here. They say the same things. Phone barely functions.

Don't do it
TJK93 · 1 year ago
Had the Pixel 3 xl before this so when it was time to get a new phone I figured this would be the improved version... I was so wrong! First one I got the speakers randomly stopped working so I had to get it replaced. The battery life is horrible no matter how many times they try to update battery saver. Main camera is okay, but the selfie camera is subpar at best. Always glitching or just plain slow. Want a new phone but they said I can't trade it in till I pay it off, given the overall dissatisfaction of other users you'd think they'd offer some type of deal but no. Stuck with it in the meantime

Worst decision you'll make
frustrated_pixel_owner · 1 year ago
I went from having the original pixel- which was amazing- to the 4 and it has given me nothing but trouble since the beginning. You might as well have Verizon or your phone insurance people on speed dial. Wi-fi rarely works on the phone (wi-fi works great on all other devices), charging port is trash, got a replacement phone and 2 months later the battery malfunctioned, it's buggy, battery drains fast, glit ches, etc. Save yourself the headache and money and get a different phone.

We really appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Pixel 4.
We try to upgrade our battery experiences year-over-year, with software features like Adaptive Battery and Battery Saver to continue extending the Pixel’s battery life.
We recommend taking a look at your battery stats to see if any apps are using an unusual amount of power, you can do this by searching 'Battery Usage' in the search bar.
If you continue to experience these issues, we recommend contacting our 1:1 support. (From your phone click on Settings > Tips & support > Contact us)
Phone sucks
Scott · 1 year ago
Verizon service is amazing and have no issues. However the Pixel 4 is a piece of crap. Only had the phone for 6 weeks and the camera stop working. This is the second Pixel 4 I have gotten in 3 months. The 1st phone stop working completely. Buyer beware. Google support also sucks and plays games when you have issues and want to send back a defective phone.

The gap
Hayden · 1 year ago
The gap between the user friendliness and quality between this and the pixel 2 is sad. The microphone is between the speakers so if music is playing the "Hey Google" feature doesn't work. If any app is open that has a microphone permission the "hey google" feature refuses to work. The battery life is worse than the 4a(cheaper option). It is no wonder that this phone was already discontinued, highly unsatisfied because the features that made the previous versions great are unusable when you need them. Will not be buying another google phone.
