Turn TalkBack / Screen Reader On or OffNavigate your Android™ device without looking at the screen. Easily turn the Google™ TalkBack / Screen Reader on or off to get spoken feedback for everything you tap and select.
Before you begin
If Google Voice™ is turned on, you can ask Google Assistant™ to turn TalkBack on or off.
Turn TalkBack / Screen Reader On
- Press and hold bothVolume buttonsfor 3 seconds then wait to hear for confirmation that TalkBack has been turned on.
- When TalkBack is on, use the two-finger swipe gesture to navigate / scroll, tap once to highlight then double tap to select.
- To access the lock screen with TalkBack on, tap the lock on the screen then tap to enter your lock code.
Turn TalkBack / Screen Reader Off
- Press and hold bothVolume buttonsfor 3 seconds.You'll hear confirmation that TalkBack has been turned off.
Turn TalkBack / Screen Reader On / Off via Settings
- Open theSettings app.
- TapAccessibility.
- Do one of the following:
- To turn TalkBack / Screen Reader On:
- TapTalkBack.If you don't see TalkBack, tapInstalled Services,Vision, orScreen reader.Options vary based on the device.
- Tap theUse TalkBack switchto turn on.
- TapTurn onto confirm.
- To turn TalkBack / Screen Reader Off:
- TapTalkBack.When TalkBack is on, use the two-finger swipe gesture to navigate / scroll, tap once to highlight then double tap to select.
- Double tap theUse TalkBack switchto turn off.
- Double tapTurn offto confirm.
