Manage RTT / TTY Settings

Managing RTT or TTY settings helps you set up your Apple® iPhone® for accessible communication via text-based calls if you're deaf or hard of hearing.

Set up RTT / TTY

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Navigate:
    Accessibility
    RTT / TTY
    .
  3. Tap the
    Software RTT switch
     to turn on.
  4. When Software RTT is enabled:
    1. Tap the
      Send Immediately switch
       to turn on.
    2. Tap the
      Answer All Calls as RTT / TTY switch
       to turn on then tap
      Answer All Calls as RTT / TTY
       to confirm.
  5. Tap the
    Hardware TTY switch
     to turn on or off.

Place and End an RTT / TTY Call

  1. Open the
    Phone app
    .
  2. Select a contact or enter the 10-digit mobile number.
  3. Tap the
    Phone icon
     then tap
    RTT / TTY Call
     or
    RTT / TTY Relay Call
    .
  4. When the call is connected, tap the
    RTT
    .
  5. From the message field, type your message.
    • When 'Send Immediately' is enabled in settings, the recipient sees the message as you type.
    • If not, enter your message then tap the
      Send icon
      .
  6. To end the RTT / TTY call:
    1. Tap the
      Back arrow
      .
    2. Tap
      End
      .
