Move Media Files to / from Computer

Connecting your Pixel 4 / 4 XL to a computer allows you to move photos, videos or music to free up storage space or back them up to make sure your files are safe.

Before you begin

If using a Macintosh® computer, another software is needed to transfer files.

Steps

  1. Connect your phone to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
    1. If necessary, touch and hold the
      Status Bar
       (area at the top of the phone screen with the time, signal strength, etc.) then drag it to the bottom.
    2. Tap the
      Android system icon
      .
      If unavailable, navigate:
      Settings
      Connected devices
      USB
      .
    3. From the 'Use USB for' section, select
      File Transfer / Android Auto
      .
  2. From your computer, open
    File Explorer
     or
    Windows Explorer
    .
  3. Using File Explorer or Windows Explorer, navigate:
    Pixel 4
    Internal shared storage
    .
  4. Use the computer to copy media files between the applicable folder (e.g., DCIM/Camera, Download, Movies, etc.) on the device and the desired location on the computer's hard drive.
