If your Pixel 4 / 4 XL drops calls due to being near a network border, locking onto a specific network can help; however, roaming charges may apply.
  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Navigate:
    Network & internet
    SIMs
    .
If using both a physical SIM and a eSIM, tap the desired network (i.e., eSIM).
  3. Tap
    Preferred network type
    .
  4. Tap the applicable setting:
    • Global
: This is the preferred setting for most locations.
    • LTE / CDMA
: This setting should only be selected if experiencing service issues in locations that offer multiple network types and only LTE/CDMA is needed.
    • LTE / GSM / UMTS
: This setting should only be selected if experiencing service issues in locations that offer multiple network types and only GSM/UMTS is needed.
The preferred international carrier is automatically selected. To manually select an alternate carrier:
      1. Tap the
        Automatically select network switch
        to turn off.
When turned on, the preferred network is automatically selected. Turning off this setting and manually selecting a different network may impact the service.
      2. Select a carrier.
It may require as many as 6 registration attempts with that carrier before successful registration.
