Restarting your Galaxy S21 5G / S21+ 5G / S21 Ultra 5G in Safe Mode puts it into a diagnostic state that only runs system apps so you can determine if a third-party app is causing freezing or slowness.

Before you begin

An alternate method is available if the device is unresponsive or won't power on.

Steps

  1. Press and hold the
    Power / Side button
     and
    Volume down button
     until the 'Power off' prompt appears onscreen then release.
  2. Touch and hold
    Power off
     until the 'Safe mode' prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap the
    Safe mode icon
     then wait for the device to reboot and 'Safe mode' to appear in the lower left of the unlock / Home screen.
  5. To exit Safe Mode, restart the device.
