Google Pixel 6a - Move Media Files to / from Computer

Here's how to transfer pictures, videos or music files between your Pixel 6a and a computer.
Only unprotected video / music files can be transferred using this method.
If using a Macintosh® computer, additional software is required in order to transfer files.
  1. Connect your phone to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
    1. If necessary, touch and hold the
      Status bar
      (at the top) then drag to the bottom.
      The image below is an example.

    2. Tap the
      Android system icon
      Android System USB connected icon that reads 'Charging this device via USB'.
    3. Tap
      File transfer / Android Auto
      .
      Selected when a dot is present.
  2. From your computer, open File Explorer or Windows Explorer.
    Using the computer keyboard, press the
    Windows+E
    (Windows key logo+E)
    keys
    .
    Alternatively, right-click
    Start
    then click 'Open Windows Explorer' or 'File Explorer'.
  3. Using File Explorer or Windows Explorer, navigate:
    Pixel 6a
    Internal shared storage
    .
    Pixel 6a is listed under the 'Devices and drives' section of 'This PC'.
    Device name reflects your device model (e.g., Pixel 6a) or its customized name.
  4. Utilize the computer to copy media files between the appropriate folder on the device and the desired location on the computer's hard drive.
    Some folders that may contain files on the device include:
    • DCIM\Camera
    • Download
    • Movies
    • Pictures
    • Music
  5. When finished, disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
