Determine Cellular CapabilitiesFollow these steps to tell what your Galaxy Watch7 can do when your phone is turned on or off.
Before you begin
Your Galaxy Watch7 should be activated on the same Verizon account and connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network regardless of how you are using it (Number Share or Kid Setup).
Calls (Incoming / Outgoing)
- Smartphone:
- can be powered off.
- doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
SMS Messages (Send / Receive)
- Smartphone doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
- When using the watch with Number Share, the companion smartphone must be powered on.The watch can send SMS messages while the smartphone is powered off; however, they are sent from the watch's mobile number rather than the smartphone's number.
- When using the watch with Kid Setup, no companion device is needed and messages are sent using the watch's mobile number.
- For issues receiving messages, refer to this Samsung article to ensure notifications in the Galaxy Wearable app are turned on for your messaging app.
Third-party App Notifications
- When using the watch with Number Share, the companion smartphone must be powered on but doesn't need to be within range of the watch.
- When using the watch with Kid Setup, no companion device is needed.
- For issues receiving notifications, refer to this Samsung article to ensure notifications in the Galaxy Wearable app are turned on for your 3rd party app (e.g., Music app, Gaming apps, etc.).
Email
- When using the watch with Number Share, your companion smartphone must be:
- powered on.
- have the Galaxy Wearable app installed.
- on Android™ 6.0 or later.
- needs to be within range of the watch.
- connected to the watch via Bluetooth®.
- When using the watch with Kid Setup, email is unavailable.
