Google Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL - Activate / Set Up Device

These steps guide you through setting up and customizing your Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL for everyday use.
If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.
Your Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL:
  • ships without a physical SIM card and is recommended to be activated with an eSIM (embedded SIM card).
  • can activate cellular service using an eSIM or physical SIM.
    If performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup and a physical SIM card is preferred, ensure:

  1. If powered off, press and hold the
    Power button
     until the Google logo appears then release.
    Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL devices don't have a pre-installed 5G SIM card and are recommended to be activated with an eSIM (embedded SIM card).

  2. From the 'Welcome to your Pixel' screen, select the appropriate language then tap

  3. From the 'Set up using another device' screen, select an option.

     to bypass this step.
  4. From the 'Connect to Wi-Fi' screen, select a network then enter the password.

     to add a Wi-Fi network after setup is complete.
    If activating using eSIM, a Wi-Fi network is required if activation fails over the cellular network.
  5. From the 'Phone activation' screen, tap

    If prompted, enter the account PIN then follow the on-screen prompts (see Account PIN FAQs for more info).
    If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off.
  6. From the 'Sign in' screen, enter a Google™ email address then tap

  7. From the 'Who will be using this device' screen, select the desired option then tap

  10. From the 'Google services: Back up your device' screen, select the desired options then tap 'Turn on backup' or tap 'Don't back up' to skip.
  11. From the 'Verizon Services' screen, select the desired option then tap

  18. Review the info on finding and sharing with nearby contacts then tap 'I agree' or tap 'No thanks' to skip.
  19. From the 'Check out fast with your phone' screen, tap 'Next' to set up your Google Pay options or tap 'Skip' to set up later.
  20. From the 'Anything else?' screen, tap any of the remaining options to review their info then tap
