Apple iPad - Restart Device

Here's how to restart your iPad if it crashes and resets, freezes or runs slowly.
Restarting your Apple® iPad® can help if you experience continuous resetting / rebooting, crashing, freezing or if the touchscreen is unresponsive.

  1. Press and hold the
    Power button
    until "slide to power off" appears then release.
    You can also navigate:
    Settings
    General
    Shutdown
    .
    If the device is unresponsive, attempt the alternate method.
    For devices without a Home button, press and hold the
    Power button
    and the
    Volume Down button
    until 'slide to power off' appears then release.
  2. Slide the
    Power switch
    right and wait approximately 30 seconds for the device to power off.
  3. To turn back the device back on, press and hold the
    Power button
    until the Apple logo appears then release.
  1. Press and hold the
    Power
    and
    Home buttons
    until the Apple logo appears (approximately 10 seconds) then release.
    For devices without a Home button:
    1. Press and quickly release the
      Volume up button
      then press and quickly release the
      Volume down button
      .
    2. To complete, press and hold the
      Power button
      until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
  2. Allow several seconds for the reboot process to complete.
    If your device won't power back on, partially charge the device then retry.
