Troubleshoot Battery / Charging Issues - Apple

Here's how to resolve charging and battery issues if your iPhone or iPad won't power on.
  1. Press and hold the
    Power button
for 3-5 seconds to verify your Apple® device doesn't power on.
If the device doesn't respond, try these steps:
    1. Do one of the following:
      • For devices with a Home button, press and hold the
        Power button
        and
        Home button
for approximately 10 seconds then release.
      • For devices without a Home button, refer to this  Apple Support page.
    2. Attempt to power on your device while it is connected to an Apple-approved adapter / charger.
For help identifying approved chargers, check out this Apple Support article.
  2. Ensure the device is properly connected to a valid power source (preferably an AC adapter and not a car charger).
USB cable-to-computer charging shouldn't be used for testing the lack of power.
  3. Verify that the device and charger display the appropriate charging / LED indicator.
If the battery level is extremely low, the display may remain blank for up to 5 minutes before a low battery image appears.
If the device displays a low battery image, it may take up to 20 minutes before the device powers up.
A battery that is completely drained should be charged for a minimum of 15-20 minutes.
  4. Attempt to power on the device using an alternate charger, if available (Apple approved equipment is preferable).
  5. Ensure the charging port contains no water damage or corrosion.
Water damage is not covered under warranty.
  6. Check the charging port for bent or broken pins.
Physical damage is not covered under warranty.
