Setting up your Verizon Online email with Outlook Express 5 - 6 on Windows
Setup Outlook Express



To setup your Verizon Online email with Outlook Express 5-6:


  1. Start Outlook Express.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.

  2. Select the Mail tab.

  3. Click Add and then select Mail. The Internet Connection Wizard dialog box will display.

  4. Enter your name in the Display Name field and click Next.

  5. Enter your email address in the Email Address field and click Next.

  6. In the My Incoming mail server is a drop-down menu, verify that POP3 is selected.

  1. Enter in the Incoming mail server field.

  2. Enter in the Outgoing mail server field and click Next.
  3. In the Account Name field, enter your Verizon Online user name. Forgot your user name or password?
  4. In the Password field, enter your Verizon Online password.Forgot your user name or password?
  5. Click Next and Finish.

  6. From the Internet Properties page, select your account and click Properties.

  7. Click Servers specify the following settings:
    • Select the My server (SMTP) requires authentication and click the Settings button.

    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server and click OK

    • Click Apply to save your changes.


  1. Select the Advanced tab and specify the following settings:
    • For Incoming mail (POP3), check the box that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"

    • The Incoming Server (POP3) should be set to 995

    • For Outgoing mail (SMTP), check the box that says “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”

    • The Outgoing Server (SMTP) should be set to 465

    • Select Leave a copy of messages on the server if you want email messages kept on the Verizon server (instead of downloaded to your computer). This setting is useful if you want to access your email  from multiple computers or via web-based email, like Message Center.

    • Select Remove from server after and enter 5 as the number of days. Important: You may exceed your email maximum storage if you leave emails on the server for more than 5 days.

    • Click Apply to save your changes.

  2. Click Ok to complete your account setup.
