How to build a Nest smart home

Smart homes are designed to make your life simpler. And with a Nest smart home, one app controls all your devices, enabling you to see who's in the driveway, make your home warmer and much more. And because the app can be accessed from multiple devices, everyone in your house – spouse, teenager, nanny – can see what is happening.

Here are six Nest products, available at Verizon, to help you build your Nest smart home:

Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd generation

Instead of simply keeping the house at the temperature you set the thermostat for, the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd generation actually learns your family’s schedule and preferences. It then programs itself to keep the house at temperatures that are both comfortable and energy efficient. No worries, you can also set the temperature manually if needed. Tech Hive noted that the Nest Learning Thermostat is “overall the ideal smart thermostat for those who want to put minimal effort into their heating and cooling system.”

Nest Cam Wi-Fi Video Camera

Do you wonder what's happening at home when you're not there? With the Nest Cam Wi-Fi Video Camera, that worry is eliminated – you can see live streaming 24/7 and set up alerts so you are notified through your smartphone about unexpected visitors or sounds. But you won’t find yourself squinting at grainy video either. Forbes reviewer David Phelan said that one of the Nest’s best features is the picture quality, which has sharp images due to the HDR capabilities of the sensors. Even better – Night Vision LED sensors let you see a clear view of the room in the dark, instead of the spotlight view you see with other brands.

Nest Cam IQ

Want to be able to review security footage at a later date? And only get alerts when a person comes into the frame, instead of pets and other objects? If so, the Next Cam IQ with its advanced features might be a fit for your home. With facial recognition capabilities, the camera recognizes familiar faces and differentiates between family members and strangers. The 12X digital zoom provides a close-up view of the room to provide a closer look. Additionally, the HD Talk and Listen lets you have a conversation with someone in the room or hear what is happening at the house.

Nest Thermostat E

Need a second thermostat for upstairs? Or perhaps a finished basement or man cave? The Nest Thermostat E is an affordable option that provides almost the same features as the Nest Learning Thermostat – controlled by the app, learns your schedule, energy efficient and integrates with other Nest products. PC Magazine described the thermostat as “reasonably priced and easy to install with a stylish design.”

Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera

Want to know when someone pulls into your driveway? Perhaps you want to see which family member constantly leaves the dog gate open. With the Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera, you can monitor an outdoor space both day and night, in rain or snow – thanks to night sensors and weatherproofing. Each time an unexpected activity occurs in the monitored area, a mobile notification is sent. Tom’s Guide wrote, “both the hardware and software for the Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera offer a quality experience with good video capture and audio, and very good functionality and ease of use.”

Nest Protect Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Instead of simply blaring a loud noise like typical smoke alarms, the Nest Protect Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm sends a mobile alert with information – type, location, fast/slow fire – to help you keep your family, pets and belongings safe. It even has a Night Promise feature, a green glow at bedtime means the batteries will last through the night – no more waking up at 2 a.m. to the annoying battery chirping. Popular Science recommended this alarm by saying, “the smart functions actually solve real problems, like false alarms and panic-inducing alerts, which makes this monitor easy to recommend.”
