One Talk Desk Phone Ensure Minimum Speed / Bandwidth Requirements
One Talk Desk Phone
Ensure Minimum Speed / Bandwidth RequirementsBefore deploying One Talk, confirm your network's minimum speed and bandwidth capabilities. This step is critical for consistent, high-quality voice and feature performance.
Before you begin
One Talk desk phones require an always-on broadband Internet connection, and connect to your Local Area Network (LAN) data router via either Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
Refer to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), network admin or equipment manufacturer for assistance regarding internet speed. Verizon doesn't support third-party routers.
DSL and satellite connections aren't recommended for One Talk desk phone services. Alternative 4G LTE broadband routers are available as an option.
Routers using DHCP typically assign 10 IP addresses to use from the device.
- Customers should work with their IT department or ISP to open the router settings and configure DHCP to allow more IP addresses to auto-configure on connection.
- Remember to account for all devices that could be assigned an IP address (e.g., desk phones, tablets, printers, smartphones, computers, servers, etc.).
Factors That Can Impact Voice Quality
- File sharing
- Music / video streaming
- Uploading or downloading files
- Ongoing operating system or antivirus updates
- Large file storage backups
Important Considerations
- Ensure the following are considered when assessing a network:
- Understand the current infrastructure.
- Validate that the network has sufficient Broadband and LAN bandwidth for One Talk.Refer to the Bandwidth Calculation Tool and Bandwidth and Network Requirements for further info.Ideal bandwidth is 1 Mbps per PC or 100 Kbps per Desk Phone. Example: Customer with 10 PCs and 10 Desk Phones requires upload speeds of 11 Mbps.
- Potential Risk: If upload speed is less than 50% of the ideal bandwidth, the customer can experience issues with connectivity or voice quality.
- Upload speed is lower than download speed and is limited.
- As part of troubleshooting, use the Site Qualification and Validation Tool to ensure the customer's network can support One Talk service.
