Here's how to set up or remove Iris recognition to unlock your Galaxy S9 / S9+.
View this info to set up or remove Iris™ recognition, a device lock option that utilizes a scan of your eye.
- Iris recognition is utilized to unlock the device.
- If synced to a corporate exchange account, the availability of this option is dependent upon the policies of your IT admin.
- For optimal performance, ensure you are in a well lit environment and not wearing contact lenses or sunglasses.
- To protect your eyes, keep the screen at least 8 inches away during iris recognition.
- Don't attach unapproved screen protectors (privacy protection films, tempered glass protectors, etc.) to your device.
- Don't use iris recognition with infants. Doing so may damage their eyesight.
- Anyone with a history of symptoms linked to an epileptic condition should consult with a physician prior to using the iris scanner.
- Open theSettings app.
- Navigate:.If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
- Perform one of the following:
- For first time setup:
- Review the disclaimer then tapContinue.
- If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., Pattern, PIN, Password) then follow the steps to complete the process.If necessary, refer to Set Up Screen Lock for assistance.
- If applicable, remove your glasses then tapContinue.
- While holding the phone 10-14 inches away, open your eyes wide and look at the screen.Position your eyes within the circles shown on the screen until your irises have been registered.If necessary, follow any additional instructions to complete the process.
- Tap theNotifications switchesto turn the following on or off:
- Iris unlockUnlock your phone with your irises.
- Screen-on iris recognitionUnlocks the phone with your irises as soon as the screen turns on, without swiping first.
- Stay on Lock screenWhen you unlock the device with iris recognition, stay on the Lock screen until you swipe.
- To remove irises:
- TapRemove iris data.
- To confirm, review the disclaimer then tapRemove.
