Here's how to erase all data on the SD / memory card in your moto g7 play.
  • When the SD / memory card is formatted as portable storage, the stored data on the card can be transferred to other devices.
  • When the SD / memory card is formatted as internal storage, it's encrypted to protect your stored data and can't be transferred to other devices.
  • This procedure erases all data on the SD / memory card. It's recommended to back up your data before formatting.
To perform the steps below, ensure the SD / memory card is inserted then do one of the following:
  • Format as Portable Storage.
  • Format as Internal Storage.

Format as Portable Storage

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Storage Storage icon
    .
  3. Tap
    SD / Memory Card
    .
    The name of the SD / memory card varies by manufacturer.
  4. Tap the
    Menu icon
     Menu icon.
  5. Tap
    Storage Settings
    .
  6. Tap
    Format
    .
  7. Tap
    Format SD Card
    .
    Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  8. From the 'Your SD card is ready to use' prompt, tap
    Done
    .

Format as Internal Storage

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Storage Storage icon
    .
  3. Tap
    SD / Memory Card
    .
    The name of the SD / memory card varies by manufacturer.
  4. Tap the
    Menu icon
     Menu icon.
  5. Tap
    Storage settings
    .
  6. Tap
    Format as Internal
    .
    When formatted as internal storage, data stored on the card cannot be transferred to other devices.
  7. Tap
    Format SD Card
    .
    Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  8. From the 'Move content to SD card?' prompt, select one of the following:
    This moves media, apps, etc. from internal storage to the SD / Memory Card.
    • Move content later
    • Move content
      Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  9. From the 'Your SD card is ready to use' prompt, tap
    Done
