Wi-Fi Access Point Support FAQs

Here’s how to set up your Wi-Fi Access Point:

1. Scan the QR code on your equipment to start setup.
2. Download and register or sign in to My Verizon.
   1. To get the My Verizon app on a mobile device, visit the Apple App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android.
3. The app will guide you through step-by-step setup instructions.

Good to know: You can find your Wi-Fi name and password through the My Verizon website, the My Verizon or Verizon Home apps, or on the physical Device Label located on the rear of your router.

• Orientation: Always keep the device in an upright position for optimal performance and signal reach.
• Wall Mounting: You can wall-mount the device using a specific bracket available at the Verizon Accessory site.
• Hardwiring: You can connect Access Points using Coax or Ethernet. A hardwired connection automatically overrides a Wi-Fi connection between Access Points to provide the most stable network.
  

Before setting up the Wi-Fi Access Point “extender”, make sure the Wi-Fi Access Point “router” is connected to the internet and is working properly, then:

1. Plug it in: Connect the Wi-Fi Access Point “extender” to the power adapter and plug it into a power outlet next to the router or gateway and wait for its light to turn solid yellow.
2. Press and hold the pair button (looks like 2 chain links) on the Wi-Fi Access Point “extender” for 3 seconds.
   1. Within 2 minutes press and hold the pair button (looks like 2 chain links) for 3 seconds on the Wi-Fi Access Point “router”. The lights on both devices will blink blue while pairing.
   2. Once paired, it could take up to 8 minutes before you see a solid white or blinking yellow light on the Wi-Fi Access Point “extender”.
   3. Don’t unplug if you see a blinking white light.
3. Move the WiFi Access Point extender: Unplug the Wi-Fi Access Point extender.
   1. Move it between your Wi-Fi Access Point “router” and the weak Wi-Fi coverage area.
   2. Plug it in. If you see a fast blinking yellow light, try moving it a bit farther away from the router. If you see a slow blinking yellow light, try a bit closer.
4. A solid white light means you have it in the right spot and your setup is complete.

The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) Expansion Module adds a coax connection option to the Wi-Fi Access Point. Find the expansion port on the back of the Wi-Fi Access Point and remove the cover. Insert the MoCA Expansion Module into the expansion port. The Wi-Fi Access Point can now connect to the coax cable.

Here’s how to connect a device to your Wi-Fi Access Point:

1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on the device you’d like to connect.
2. Select your router's Wi-Fi name Wi-Fi network name (ESSID).
   1. Find this name on the back panel label.
      Enter your Wi-Fi password from the same label.

Good to know: We recommend creating a strong, unique password for your network.

Find your Wi-Fi name and password for your Wi-Fi Access Point using these methods:

1. Visit My Verizon > sign in > select Manage my equipment.
2. Open the My Verizon app > sign in > tap Home > Internet management.
3. Open the Verizon Home app > sign in > tap Network > tap Wi-Fi management > tap Show.
4. Device Label > locate the label on your router’s rear panel. Peel it back to reveal the default SSID, WPA2 key, and Admin URL
   

• Visit My Verizon > sign in > select Manage my equipment.
• Open the My Verizon app > sign in > tap Home > Internet management.
• Open the Verizon Home app > sign in > tap Quick Actions > tap Share Wi-Fi.

Yes, all three radio bands are supported.

Wi-Fi 7 is the latest generation of Wi-Fi (802.11) designed to increase connection speeds and reduce latency. Wi-Fi 7 incorporates Multi-link Operation (MLO) supporting connections at 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz,  and 6 GHz simultaneously. It uses a wide 320 MHz channel and Multi-link Operation (MLO), which allows your devices to send and receive data across multiple frequency bands at the same time.

The IoT (Internet of Things) Network makes it easier to connect smart home gadgets like cameras, smart bulbs and older Wi-Fi devices.
While your main Wi-Fi uses a Unified SSID (1 single name for the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands), some smart devices struggle to connect to this combined signal. Enabling the IoT Network creates a dedicated connection specifically for the 2.4 GHz band.

Selecting the correct Multi-Link Operation (MLO) setting ensures your newest devices reach maximum speeds while your older gadgets stay connected. Your choice depends on the mix of hardware in your home. For detailed instructions on modifying these configurations, refer to your User Manual under Advanced Settings.

The Wi-Fi Access Point offers two ways to manage your high-speed bands:

• 2-Link MLO (Default Setting): This mode allows high-performance devices to connect to the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands simultaneously. We recommend this setting for most users because it keeps the 2.4 GHz band separate, ensuring your older devices maintain a stable connection.
• 3-Link MLO (Advanced Setting): This mode combines all three bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) into one ultra-fast connection. While this provides the best possible speed for Wi-Fi 7 hardware, it may cause connection issues for older electronics.

Important: If you enable 3-Link MLO, the IoT SSID is enabled by default to help your older smart home gadgets stay online.

The Wi-Fi Access Point uses WPA2 and WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security:

• 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Bands: Use WPA2/WPA3 by default to balance security and compatibility.
• 6 GHz Band: Uses WPA3, the most advanced encryption available.

Important: If you enable 3-Link MLO, the entire network switches to WPA3. Some older devices may be unable to connect to this high-security standard.

The Verizon Home app simplifies home network management. It lets you monitor network equipment, customize Wi-Fi settings and control your internet router:

• Control Wi-Fi: Change names, passwords and enable/disable networks.
• Manage Router: Restart, save settings, run speed tests and manage LED lights.
• Parental Controls: Group devices and set internet access schedules.

Good to know: Other Verizon home services (e.g., High Speed Internet, DSL) can only be managed with the My Verizon website (not the app).

Verizon Fios internet customers with select routers are eligible for Fios Parental Controls.

Eligible models include:

• Wi-Fi Access Point (CHR30A model)
• Fios Router (G3100 model)
• Verizon Router (CR1000A and CR1000B models)
  

No, our latest Wi-Fi Access Point hardware features Self-Organizing Network (SON) technology, which automatically optimizes your connection. Older devices do not support these advanced features. Previous generations can be manually forced to connect and operate alongside the new Wi-Fi Access Point, but those unique configurations will not function correctly and are deemed unsupported.

Yes, the Wi-Fi Access Point supports a hardwired connection with Coax or Ethernet. Please note that any “hardwired” connection will override a Wi-Fi connection between Wi-Fi Access Points.

Yes, Fios TV One will communicate over Wi-Fi directly to the Wi-Fi Access Point configured as a router or an extender.  In order for Fios TV One to successfully connect to the Wi-Fi Access Point configured as an extender, the extender must be connected with a "wired" connection to the router with Ethernet or MoCA ( Coax) cables. Or, your Fios TV One can connect using Wi-Fi if your Wi-Fi Access Point configured as an extender is connected with a “wired” connection to the Wi-Fi Access Point configured as a router. Based on the Digital Transfer Content Protection guidelines, a Wi-Fi-connected set-top-box can only support "one" Wi-Fi hop in your home network.

Rebooting the Wi-Fi Access Point simply requires removing it from the power outlet, and plugging it back in.

Pressing and holding the reset button located on the rear of the Wi-Fi Access Point will restore the Access Point to the factory default settings. Use the pointed end of a paperclip to press and hold the pin hole reset for 5 seconds.
