Prepaid 3G network shutdown FAQs

We're retiring the Verizon 3G CDMA network on 12/31/22. After the 3G network shutdown:

• 3G devices, 4G devices that don't support HD voice (Non-VoLTE), and network extenders will show "no service". Voice, text and data will not work.
• To stay connected to Verizon prepaid, you'll need a 4G LTE or 5G device. Find out more: How can I stay connected after the Verizon 3G network shuts down?
• If you don't upgrade to a 4G or 5G device your account will be canceled on 2/28/23. Any remaining funds you had for that line will be forfeited. Read our Prepaid Terms & Conditions.

3G/4G Non-VoLTE devices won't work after the 3G network shuts down on 12/31/22. To stay connected with Verizon prepaid you must:

• Activate a compatible 4G LTE or 5G phone on your line. You can either:
  • Bring a device you already have.
  • Shop online or call 888-384-1778 (Customer Service).
• Have funds in your account.
  • If your account balance is $0, your line will become inactive.
  • If you don't add funds within 60 days, you'll lose your mobile number.
• You might want to choose a new prepaid plan so you can use all the features of your new phone.

3G and 4G Non-VoLTE devices won't work after the 3G network shuts down. The list of devices that won't work after 12/31/22 includes:

• 3G basic phones and smartphones
• 4G smartphones that don't support HD Voice (Non-VoLTE)
  • Apple iPhone 5, 5C, 5S or prior
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 or prior
• Connected devices
  • GizmoPal, GizmoPal2, GizmoGadget
  • Various Hum⁺ models
  • 3G Home Phone Connect
• 3G tablets and mobile broadband
  • Apple iPad 2
• Network Extenders
  • Samsung 3G EVDO: SCS-2U01, SCS-2U3100
• Proprietary custom built 3G equipment

Verizon stores* accept your unwanted mobile devices for recycling. Bring your devices with or without their rechargeable batteries, chargers and cables.
