How to Change your Email Settings


The security of your personal information is a priority to Verizon. If you access your email through your smartphone or tablet or use email software such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail, or Windows Live Mail, it is critical that your email settings are up to date.

You will not be able to access your Verizon email on any device that does not have the current email settings (shown below) after April 28, 2015 (the actual date may vary by customer region and location).

If you can't send or receive email, please check to ensure you have updated your settings.


Note: No action is required if you access your email with Verizon Webmail (myverizon.com/webmail).

Select the device you use to access your email:

Windows Live

In order to change your settings in Windows Live, please do the following:
  1. Open Windows Live, select Accounts then Properties.

  2. Select the Servers Tab.

  3. Change Incoming mail (POP3): to pop.verizon.net. Change Outgoing mail (SMTP) to smtp.verizon.net.

  4. Select the Advanced Tab.

  5. On the Advanced tab, review the area underneath Server Port Numbers. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field enter the number: 465 and check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). In the Incoming mail (POP3): field, enter the number: 995 and check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Once you are finished, select OK.

  6. Click Ok

  7. Close Windows Live and then reload and send a test message.

Outlook Express

In order to change your settings in Outlook Express, please do the following:
  1. Open Outlook Express, select the Tools menu and from the drop-down list select Account Settings.

  2. Select the Mail Tab, click on the email account to modify and then select Properties.

  3. Click on the Servers Tab and change Incoming mail (POP3): to pop.verizon.net. Change Outgoing mail (SMTP) to smtp.verizon.net. Under Outgoing Mail Server check the box next to My server requires authentication and click on Settings.

  4. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server and click Ok.

  5. Select the Advanced tab, review the area underneath Server Port Numbers. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field enter the number: 465 and check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). In the Incoming mail (POP3): field, enter the number: 995 and check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Once you are finished, select OK.

  6. Click Close

  7. Close Outlook Express and then reload and send a test message.

Outlook 2007

In order to change your settings in Outlook, you must follow the steps below:

  1. Open your Outlook, select the Tools menu and from the drop-down list select Account Settings.

  2. The Account Settings window will open displaying the Email tab. Click to highlight your Verizon account and then select Change.

  3. On the Change Email Settings screen, under Server Information change Incoming mail server: to pop.verizon.net. Change Outgoing mail server (SMTP): to smtp.verizon.net. Then select More Settings from the lower right-hand portion of the window.

  4. From the Internet Email Settings window, select the Advanced tab. From the Advanced tab, review the area underneath Server Port Numbers. In the Incoming server (POP3): field, enter the number: 995 and check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). In the Outgoing server (SMTP) field enter the number: 465.

    Once you are finished, select OK.

After you have completed the above steps for Outlook, you will be configured to use port 465 to send email with much greater safety and protection from spam and viruses.

Outlook 2010

In order to change your settings in Outlook 2010, you must follow these steps:
  1. Open your Outlook, select File, Info, Account Settings, Account Settings...Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings.

  2. On the E-mail tab, select your verizon.net email address and click, Change....

  3. Change Incoming mail server: to pop.verizon.net and change Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to smtp.verizon.net. Click More Settings.

  4. Click the Advanced tab. Change Incoming server (POP3): to 995. Check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Change Outgoing server (SMTP): to 465. Change Use the following type of encrypted connection: to SSL. Click OK.

  5. Click Test Account Settings and click Next.

  6. Click Finish to shut down the wizard. Send a test email to yourself to ensure the settings are correct. Outlook 2010 flow

Apple Mail

In order to change your email settings in Apple Mail, follow the steps outlined below:
  1. Select Mail then Preferences.

  2. On the Advanced tab, uncheck Automatically detect and maintain account settings, close the window and acknowledge you want to save.

  3. Reopen the dialog box (Mail -> Prefrences). On the Account Information tab, Change Incoming Mail Server: to pop.verizon.net.

  4. Select the Advanced tab. Change the Port setting to 995 and check Use SSL. Recheck Automatically detect and maintain account settings.

  5. Select the Acount Information Tab. Next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) select Edit SMTP Server List... from the drop down.

  6. Change server name to smtp.verizon.net, change Port to 465, check Use SSL and click OK.

  7. Send a test email to yourself to ensure the settings are correct.

Android Tablets and Phones

In order to change your email settings on an Android Tablet or Phone, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Go to Settings, General, and select Email.

  3. Select your Verizon email account and then and select More Settings.

  4. Scroll down and select Incoming settings.

  5. Under POP3 server change incoming.verizon.net to pop.verizon.net, change Security type to SSL, and change Port to 995. Tap Done in upper right corner.

  6. Scroll down and select Outgoing settings.

  7. Under SMTP server change outgoing.verizon.net to smtp.verizon.net, change Security type to SSL, and change Port to 465. Tap Done in upper right corner.

  8. Send a test email account to yourself to ensure settings are working correctly.

    iPhone, iTouch, iPad

    In order to change the email settings on iPhone, iTouch, and iPad (except iPhone 3):
    1. From your home screen choose the option for Settings and select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.

    2. Choose the account you wish to edit by tapping that account.

    3. Scroll down to Advanced and tap to select.

    4. On the Advanced screen, under Incoming Settings, select Use SSL, ensure Authentication is set to Password, and change the Server Port to 995. Tap the upper left Verizon button to return to the previous screen.

    5. Scroll to Incoming Mail Server and change it to pop.verizon.net.

    6. Scroll to Outgoing Mail Server and tap SMTP.

    7. On SMTP screen, under Primary Server tap On.

    8. Change the Host Name under Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.verizon.net, select Use SSL, select "password" next to Authentication and change the Server Port to 465.

    9. Tap Done. Once the account is verified tap the Verizon button, then tap Done. Once the settings have been verified, send a test email message to ensure you settings are correct.

    iPhone 3

    In order to change your email settings on an iPhone 3, follow the instructions below:

    1. From your home screen choose the option for Settings and select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.

    3. Scroll down to Advanced and tap to select.

    4. Turn on Use SSL, ensure Authentication is set to Password, and change Server Port to 995. Tap the upper left Verizon button to return to the previous screen.

    5. Under Incoming Mail Servicer, change Host Name to pop.verizon.net and then select SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server.

    6. Under Primary Server, tap outgoing.verizon.net.

    7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, change Host Name to smtp.verizon.net, turn on Use SSL, ensure Authentication is set to Password and change Server Port to 465. Tap the upper right Done button.

    8. Once verification is complete, tap the upper left Verizon button and then tap Done. iPhone 3 Flow

    9. Send a test message to yourself to ensure your settings are correct.
