The speed on a Wi-Fi connection depends on the Wi-Fi standard your device supports. As a general guideline, maximum theoretical speeds supported by the existing Wi-Fi standards are:

The following applies to the Verizon Router (CR1000A & CR1000B) and the Wi-Fi Access Point (CHR30A):

• 2.4 GHz
  • IEEE 802.11b/g/n maximum up to 600 Mbps
  • IEEE 802.11ax maximum up to 1.1 Gbps
• 5 GHz
  • IEEE 802.11a/n/ac maximum up to 2.2 Gbps
  • IEEE 802.11ax maximum up to 2.4 Gbps
• 6 GHz
  • IEEE 802.11ax maximum up to 4.8 Gbps

The following only applies to the Wi-Fi Access Point (CHR30A):

• MLO enabled
  • IEEE 802.11be maximum up to 46 Gbps

Good to know: These speeds are best-case scenarios and most devices may not achieve these speeds due to limitations on the number of Wi-Fi antennas, antenna orientation etc. on the device.

Fios Router supports Fios Gig.

A router speed test can be used to measure the speed being delivered from the Verizon network to your home router. To test the speed of Fios Gig, go to verizon.com/SpeedTest and run a router speed test.

If you just ordered a Fios Gig and have a same day due date, it generally takes a few hours to have your service supplied. Please wait until end of day before you test your Fios Gig.

To get the best possible speed, make sure your device:

• Meets or exceeds the recommended system requirements
• Is connected to the router using a wired Gig Ethernet Connection
• Isn’t running on battery power or configured using a power-saving profile
• Browser is updated to the latest version (you may experience slower speeds when testing on some browsers due to the browser's internal processes)
• Has a limited number of applications running, the presence of security software (e.g., firewall and anti-malware) can affect your speed test; it is advised that you temporarily turn off the security software while running a speed test. Once the test is complete, don’t forget to turn the anti-malware software ON again.

Note: If your device doesn’t meet the recommended specifications for Fios Gig, it’s likely you won’t see your subscribed internet speed when running a device test. As higher speed products like Fios Gig become available, your device’s capability to support these high-capacity speeds becomes critical.

Also, when running a speed test on a Wi-Fi device, you are testing the speed of your Wi-Fi network, not the broadband speed delivered by your Fios Gig Connection provider.

Your Wi-Fi speed can be affected by your surroundings, including walls, distance from your router, and electronics like microwaves or baby monitors.

To get the strongest signal:

• Centralize your router: Place it in the room where you use the internet most.
• Clear the path: Keep the router out in the open, away from walls, large furniture, and other electronics.
• Update older tech: Disconnect very old devices (like those using 802.11b) as they can slow down your entire network.
• Plug in for speed: For tasks that require the fastest possible connection (like gaming or large downloads), use an Ethernet cable to plug directly into the router.
