Will Verizon ask for my social security number?

We may ask for your social security number in order to do a credit check before providing service. This is standard industry practice, as it allows us to extend credit to new customers, so they can make calls before their first bill arrives. If you prefer not to give out your social security number, you can opt for a pre-paid phone plan that lets you buy a specific number of minutes in advance. No credit check is needed for those plans, so you don’t have to provide your social security number.
