Verizon Cloud Desktop App
Recover Files

Backtrack is a tool that lets you restore all your files from a specific point in the past 30 days, in case your content becomes corrupted, is affected by a virus or malware, or is otherwise lost.

Before you begin

Only the Verizon Cloud Unlimited storage plans support restoring content via Backtrack.
To review or upgrade your Verizon Cloud storage option, refer to View Storage Meter / Upgrade Memory.
For more info on Backtrack capabilities and limitations, refer to the Cloud Backtrack FAQ.

Steps

  1. If ransomware is suspected:
    1. Sign out of Verizon Cloud on every device (e.g., phone, tablet, desktop, etc.).
    2. On each device, delete all the impacted folders that Verizon Cloud is backing up.
    3. Make sure that every device is cleaned of the ransomware and any other infected files.
  2. Open the Verizon Cloud desktop app using one of the following methods:
    • Select the
      Cloud icon
in the system tray (lower-right, Windows) or menu bar (upper-right, Mac).
    • Search for
      Verizon Cloud
      in your application list.
  3. If necessary, sign in to the Verizon Cloud app on a desktop computer.
  4. Backtrack replaces the existing data by restoring the version that existed at the end of the selected date, so refer to Download Media to save any newer content.
  5. Select the
    3-dot Menu
    then select
    Backtrack
    .
  6. Select
    Get started
    .
  7. Choose the device repository you want to backtrack then select
    Continue
    .
If a repository is not appearing, it may not have been updated to Backtrack yet (it can sometimes take a few hours), so wait and try again later.
  8. Choose the desired date then select
    Continue
    .
Use the graph to help pick the date. If you see a spike in changes that you don't recognize, choose an earlier date to backtrack.
If a mass-deletion event occurred, select the day before the event.
  9. Review the device and date then select
    Confirm
    to begin the backtrack process.
Processing time varies and may take hours depending on files restored.
Once backtrack begins it can't be canceled.
  10. After the process has finished, select
    Finish
    .
  11. Once completed, open and sign in to Verizon Cloud on the device you selected to begin the sync process.
If necessary, re-install then sign in to Cloud using any of the following:
