PopData for mobile plans FAQs

PopData is an all-you-can-stream data connection that you can get where network capacity is available*

PopData is powered by the Verizon mobile network and provides a faster, more secure connection than most public Wi-Fi  hotspots. PopData is available almost everywhere.*

When you use PopData:

• You don't have to wait for Wi-Fi .
• You can do limited periods of heavy data usage (i.e. watch videos) without that usage counting toward your monthly mobile plan’s data.

*Available only to eligible devices on qualified data plans.

PopData’s data usage is measured in 30 and 60-minute sessions and is billed directly to your account:

• $2 for 30 minutes
• $3 for 60 minutes

You may see an option to buy another session at the end of your current one, if available.

To use PopData you must:

• Have a qualifying standard monthly account
• Use a Verizon Android™ smartphone, Apple® iPhone® or Apple iPad®
• Be in an area that has network availability.

Important:

• PopData isn't available for Prepaid accounts or businesses with a signed Major Account Agreement.
• Session options depend on network availability at the time of your request.

If your standard monthly mobile plan is eligible and in times of network availability, you will see the option to get PopData through the My Verizon app.

PopData is available almost anywhere Verizon has 4G LTE coverage. A 4G LTE connection is required to start a PopData session.

Good to know: If you don't see a PopData option, your mobile plan or your device may not be eligible to get PopData.

Yes. Location Based Services must be enabled. That's because the network needs to know your location to know if a session is available in that area.

There's a time limit because availability depends on the amount of network traffic when you select a session.

Just like buying event tickets, you have a limited amount of time to accept the tickets, or the opportunity to buy the tickets expires.

Push notifications must be enabled so we can let you know when your PopData session is over and you're using your standard monthly mobile plan's data again.

You'll receive notification in the My Verizon app so you know:

• When your PopData session starts
• What time it will end
• When there's 5 minutes left in your PopData session
• When it's over

You may see an option to purchase another session at the end of your current one, if one is available.

PopData sessions are purchased and used by individual mobile numbers, but are billed to that line's account. To use PopData:

• You must have the My Verizon app and meet the other PopData eligibility requirements.
• Your account must be eligible for bill to account, including all normal checks for eligibility. See bill to account eligibility requirements.
• Each user must be authorized to bill purchases to the account. The Account Owner will receive a notification text and email regarding the purchase.

Yes. We offer a free service block feature in My Verizon that you can set up for each mobile device on your account. It can limit the device's messaging, data capabilities and block different types of purchases like ringtones, in-app purchases and more.

Your PopData connection lasts for the length of your session, either 30 or 60 minutes.

The timer runs for the purchased amount of contiguous minutes from the start of the session. It's not affected (delayed, paused or otherwise) by any activity or network connectivity.

Good to know: Since PopData doesn't use your plan data, it's not included in any data usage tools, such as #DATA.

Before you can start a session, we'll analyze network activity, strength and expected capacity for the next 30 minutes at the location where you make the request.

This doesn't guarantee that something unexpected won't occur (e.g., moving to an area with poorer service, more network congestion).
