Managing natural resources and waste
We have implemented policies and programs designed to responsibly manage the natural resources we use and the waste we produce.
Recycling and waste diversion
We work across the company and externally with partners and suppliers to reduce, reuse and responsibly recycle materials. We recycled or reused over 92 million pounds of materials in 2024. To enable our communities to safely recycle e-waste, Verizon sponsors free recycling events open to our employees and the public.
Water conservation and resilience
We implement water conservation measures throughout our operations. We reduced our water consumption by 7% from 2019-2024.
Our path to
operational net-zero
Because most of our operational carbon footprint comes from the electricity we use to power our networks, our path to operational net-zero is focused on two key drivers: maximizing the energy efficiency of our networks and facilities and transitioning to renewable energy. We expect to achieve net-zero operational emissions by year-end 2035.
Engaging the V Team
Our Green Team is a collective of employees dedicated to environmental stewardship and raising awareness around resource use and conservation. At year-end 2024, 52% of V Teamers across 47 countries and territories were part of the Green Team.
External assurance
Verizon annually obtains independent limited assurance over key environmental indicators. For other information or claims regarding Verizon’s emissions that are not specifically identified as being independently assured, Verizon relies on the application of various internal policies and compliance with data quality standards and verification procedures set forth in our information governance and controls frameworks to validate such information or claims. See our Externally Assured Responsible Business Data page for more information.
