It was just two weeks ago when I joined Up To Speed to address the violence against the Asian community.  Like many of you, I was shocked and saddened to learn of the attacks that happened in Atlanta earlier this week. To say we condemn these events doesn’t feel like enough of an acknowledgment of what’s happening across the country and around the world. However, our heart goes out to anyone affected.

This serves as an urgent reminder that we need to dismantle systemic racism and confront explicit and implicit bias that prevents us from creating a truly equitable world.

Staying silent and still is not an option. We need to take real action to root out pervasive hate and discrimination. An attack on one group is an attack on everyone, and we must unite against racism once and for all.

As we push for progress, we are committing $10 million to accelerate social justice across the Asian community, including a $5 million contribution to leading organizations on the front lines of advancing racial equality. These organizations include Asian Americans Advancing Justice / AAJC, the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and the Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (ACE).

We are also donating $5 million in ad inventory from Verizon Media to advocate for Asian rights and mental health, as well as promote small businesses across the Asian community.

At Verizon, we create the networks that move the world forward, and we’re committed to moving the world forward for everyone. We stand with the Asian community, including our employees, customers, and anyone who has been impacted by these horrific events.

While no one person alone will solve the challenges ahead, we are 135,000 strong, and together we can pave the way for meaningful progress and long-lasting change.
