About the survey
Now in its sixth year, the Verizon Frontline Public Safety Communications Survey offers a unique look at how first responders view the technology that shapes their life-saving work. Commissioned by Verizon Frontline, Lexipol Media Group surveyed over 1,000 U.S. public safety professionals to understand their current challenges, priorities, and expectations for the future of mission-critical communications. This year's report reveals an accelerated adoption of advanced technology and the continued importance of network reliability.
AI moves to the front lines
Daily use of Artificial Intelligence by public safety personnel has nearly tripled compared to 2025, reaching nearly 32%. A majority of agencies (56%) now anticipate daily AI utilization within three years, viewing it as a critical decision-support tool.
Robots and drones as the first “eyes and ears”
Daily use of drones and robots has climbed to 26%, marking a significant jump from 15% last year. Agencies are increasingly deploying these systems to navigate hazardous environments, keeping human responders out of harm's way while providing real-time situational awareness.
Reliability remains vital
As agencies integrate these technologies, the demand for network resilience remains strong. Over 77% of responders cite "reliability and resilience" as the primary operational requirement for their success. This extends to choice in personal devices as well, as roughly 49% of respondents said network reliability most influences their decision when selecting a plan for their personal devices.
