In celebration of Black History Month, we’re spotlighting black-owned small businesses like Denette Braud’s award-winning Braud’s Funnel Cake Cafe.

The year? 2006.

Picture this: Denette Braud is setting up a pop-up tent where she swirls funnel cake batter into a single electric fryer– it's the start of her bakery journey. Fast forward to 2017: she’s opened the first and only funnel cake cafe in all of Las Vegas. Now, she just scored big - Braud’s Funnel Cake Cafe was selected as an approved supplier of the Super Bowl LVIII Business Connect program and Las Vegas Super Bowl Host Committee.

Life gets even sweeter.

Braud’s Funnel Cake Cafe is a participant in Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready Program. The program is one of many efforts within our responsible business plan, Citizen Verizon, and helps small business owners improve their digital acumen, financial management, media marketing, and more.

A cherry on top.

During Verizon’s Super Bowl festivities, Jessica Leavitt, Senior Director of Business Sales, and Angela Burton, Director of Business Sales, surprised Dennette with the Small Business Digital Ready grant, presenting her with a $10,000 check towards building her business.

Dennette was not only surprised but expressed thanks to Verizon for helping small businesses like hers achieve growth and acceleration.

Surprise and thanks from a grateful owner.

“I would really recommend anyone starting out or even anyone already in business to go and check out Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready program, it helped me a lot and I’m sure it will help other businesses as well,” Braud said

Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready program is completely free, offers over 40 unique courses customized for small business owners, and includes 1:1 coaching, live mentoring, and workshops., Some courses are offered in Spanish.

This is just one example of the way Verizon Business shows up for small businesses across the nation.
