What if a single number could ring your family when it matters most?
Family Line (in Verizon Family Plus) can help urgent calls get to the right person at the right time.
You’re presenting in a Zoom meeting while your phone is set to “do not disturb. ”So you miss a call. Then a text goes unread. They’re both from the nurse at your kid’s school: your child isn’t feeling well and needs to be picked up.
By the time you see the notifications, 47 minutes have passed.
Frantically, you text your co-parent. They didn’t get a call, so now you’re both scrambling. Who will call the nurse back? And who’s going to drive to school?
This isn’t a far-fetched scenario: It’s how most working parents live. Research from the University of Michigan Medicine found that parents receive nearly 300 notifications a day and check their phones an average of 93 times.
This is why Family Line exists: One number that rings the family phones you choose. It’s available with Verizon Family Plus.
The power of a shared number
Family Line is a voice-only line of service feature within the Verizon Family app (only available with the paid version of Verizon Family or "Verizon Family Plus"). The Primary Guardian of a Verizon Family Plus account can share with up to 5 total users. It rings on up to five designated phones at once, so when the school nurse calls the Family Line number, each parent gets it.
Beyond convenience: Safety and coordination
Family Line is about helping to make sure someone is always reachable, whether a parent needs to be contacted by a school or an elderly parent needs urgent help.
Here’s how it works:
- One number for the whole household works on up to five phones through Verizon Family Plus.
- When someone calls your Family Line number, all the smartphones ring at the same time, so anyone can pick up.
- Make and receive calls right from the Verizon Family Plus app.
- Handle more than one call at once — up to three different conversations happening on different devices.
- Jump into a call that’s already in progress if you need to join the conversation.
- Need to get everyone on the same page? With Family Line (part of the Verizon Family Plus plan), you can start a group call with family members on your Verizon account.
- Comes with its own voicemail, call history, contact list, custom ringtones, and more — just like a regular voice-only phone line.

How to set up Family Line
To get started with Family Line:
- Open your Verizon Family Plus account settings
- Enable the Family Line feature.
- Assign a single mobile number to up to 5 smartphones—like your phone, your partner’s phone.
Once set up, any call to that shared number rings on all those phones at once. No need to download another app or forward calls manually. It’s all built in, and takes just a few taps to set up in the Verizon Family app.
