Some states have established electronic waste recycle programs, including many that are free to consumers.

In compliance with Virginia Computer Recovery and Recycling Act, Verizon recycled a total of 6,055 pounds of covered electronic devices (primarily tablet computers but not including smart phones or basic phones) from the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2016.
In Pennsylvania, Verizon is a member of the RLGA Group Plan registered with the State in compliance with the Covered Device Recycling Act. This program provides convenient methods for consumers of covered devices to return their products for environmentally sound recycling. You can return a device to any Verizon store or mail it to us.
Most recyclers will attempt to erase data from refurbished or recycled devices. However, it is good practice to purge your personal data - your contact list, photos, text messages, etc. - before giving it over to a recycler (or passing it to a family member or friend).
Most devices allow you to erase all of your personal data and reset the device to its factory settings. Refer to your owner's manual or the manufacturer's device support website. Make sure you've also removed or erased the data on any expansion memory such as microSD cards and removed your SIM card. If you can't find the instructions or need assistance, visit any Verizon Wireless store or call our toll free number 800-416-8894.
