This year, three V Teamers from Verizon India took the spotlight at external forums that recognize the talent and expertise of Women in Tech, winning two awards at the Empowering Women in IT (eWIT) Excellence Awards and one at the Women in Corporate Awards (WICA) 2020. Reji, Manisha and Sowmya made us proud by clinching the ‘Trendsetter Woman in IT’, ‘Emerging Woman in IT’ and ‘Innovation Champion’ titles respectively at these awards.
The IT Trailblazer
Reji R. is setting the bar high for women in technology. As this year’s winner of the eWIT ‘Trendsetter Woman in IT - Technology category’ award, Reji knows the value of taking your ideas and blazing a path to success. A trendsetter and trailblazer for women everywhere, she uses her platform to inspire others to chase their goals.
She shares, “I hope this recognition motivates more people to actively engage in the many avenues that Verizon provides to be a part of industry forums, and showcase our skills and accomplishments.” - Reji R.
The Rising Star
For Manisha G., just making the shortlist for this year’s award was reason enough to celebrate. Never did she dream she would become the eWIT ‘Emerging Woman in IT - Innovation category’ winner.
With seven years of experience in technology innovation, Manisha calls her first national-level industry award a dream come true. “Thank you, Verizon. Every achievement gives me a new motivation to achieve more. Looking forward to adding value to this recognition by empowering others in IT.” - Manisha G.
The Champion of Innovation
Rounding out our trio of honorees, Sowmya R. is the first V Teamer to win big at the Women In Corporate Awards (WICA). Upon claiming the “WICA Innovation Champion” title, Sowmya called the support and resources she receives at Verizon “empowering for women in the industry. WICA 2020 is conducted by Women’s Web, recognizing the achievements of women at work in India. This year is the first time a V Teamer has participated and won a WICA award.
“The opportunities provided to women in the form of mentoring, Women’s Association of Verizon Employees (WAVE), external event participation as speakers, etc. have empowered us to grow along with the organization and I’m no exception to this. I once again thank all my current and previous leaders for providing me the platform and support to grow.” - Sowmya R.
The Tech Makers Program at Verizon India
Verizon India’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) team charters the Tech Makers program, which nurtures and encourages women in tech at Verizon. This program provides opportunities to be a part of industry forums and platforms like NASSCOM, eWIT, GHCI, Geek Goddess, and more while helping V Teamers gain visibility and emerge as thought leaders and role models in technology.
