Bring your number to Verizon FAQs

Here's how to keep your current phone number when you switch to Verizon.

Before you begin:

• Visit our Bring Your Number page to confirm your number can be transferred.
• Contact your current carrier to get a "Port-out" or "Transfer" PIN.
• Keep your current service active until the transfer is complete. If you cancel your old plan early, you may lose your phone number.

When you're ready to switch to Verizon, shop for a plan and a new phone you can pair with your current number for a seamless switch. Shop for a new device, Bring your own device, Contact us or visit a Verizon store.

Most phone numbers are eligible to be brought to Verizon*. Some numbers may not be eligible based on geography, service area coverage, technology or ownership of the line you're switching the number from.

*Local Number Portability, a government mandate, requires mobile and landline service providers to let customers keep their eligible phone numbers when switching carriers.

Typical timelines to bring your number to Verizon are:

• Mobile* – 4-24 business hours.
• Landline – 2-10 business days.

Good to know:

• These are average times. With certain circumstances, it could take more or less time.
• We'll text you a link to track your number activation status.

*Transfer from Tracfone to Verizon mobile can take from 0-15 minutes up to 24 hours. Your number remains active on Tracfone during this time.

Yes, you can bring an existing number when you activate your Verizon prepaid phone.

We don't charge a fee to bring your number to Verizon.

Depending on your old carrier's terms, you may be responsible for paying that carrier an Early Termination Fee (ETF) or other accrued charges (e.g., any remaining balance for device payments, etc.).

You can replace your existing Verizon mobile number with a phone number from another carrier. Visit the Change Mobile Number page in My Verizon.

Before you bring your number to Verizon:

• Make sure your device or number isn't locked with your current service provider.
• Have a device with a Verizon SIM or an e-SIM so it will work on the Verizon network.
• Have certain required information on hand.

To start the online process of bringing your number to Verizon, we need:

• The current active number that you want to bring to Verizon.
• An account number.*
• Your Number Transfer PIN** from your current carrier.
• A security code. Depending on your carrier, this may be the Number Transfer PIN, security PIN, or password. Note: The code is specific to the line/number and is not the log-in for your account.
• Another number where we can reach you during the switching process (other than the number you’re bringing to Verizon).

*Not required for transferring from Tracfone to Verizon mobile.
**If you're bringing your number in person at a Verizon store, bring your most recent bill instead.

A Number Transfer PIN is created by your previous carrier (e.g., AT&T, T-Mobile, Tracfone*, etc.).

You can get a Number Transfer PIN by signing into your online account for your current carrier and searching for Number Transfer PIN.

Keep in mind the Number Transfer PIN:

• Isn't provided by Verizon when you're bringing your number to us.
• Isn't the same as the 4 or 6-digit Account PIN you created with your previous carrier.

*Tracfone customers can get a Number Transfer PIN by texting “NTP” to 611611 in your previous carrier's app.

Find your account number from your previous carrier on your billing statement. The online statement is usually available on the carrier's mobile app or website.

Note: The account PIN will be 4-6 digits. This is different from the Number Transfer PIN you get from your carrier when switching to another carrier.

Keep in mind: When moving service, most carriers require a Number Transfer PIN and not an Account PIN.

No. Don't cancel your existing service while bringing your number to Verizon. When your switch is complete, your old provider's account will disconnect automatically.

Note: Make sure you don't have any pending orders before you bring your number to Verizon.

When you bring your number from another mobile carrier to a new line at Verizon:

1. During the switching process, you still have service with your previous carrier. 
   1. Your new Verizon line can make calls but can't receive them. And texting may not work.
2. We text you instructions when your number switch is complete.
3. Program your phone with our texted instructions right away.

Once your number switch is done, all your mobile service will be through Verizon.

When you bring a number to replace a Verizon number:

1. Both your lines of service work until the number switch is complete.
2. We text you when your number switch is complete.
3. Your line with the other service provider stops working.
4. Program your phone with our texted instructions right away.
5. Restart your device to activate the changes.

Once your number switch is done, all your mobile service will be through Verizon, on the number you brought over.

When you bring a number to us from a Verizon Reseller (e.g., Spectrum Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, etc.):

• Your new Verizon mobile phone won't work until the switch is complete. Your original device will still work.
• We text you when your number switch is complete.
• Your line with the other service provider stops working.
• Program or power cycle your Verizon phone using our texted instructions right away.

Result: Your phone is on the Verizon mobile network, using the number you brought from another carrier.
