MCI Completes SAS 70 Type I Review For Premium Data Centers

ASHBURN, Va., June 28, 2005-MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced it successfully completed the SAS 70 Type I examination of its Premium Data Centers and their operating environments. The examination, performed by Ernst & Young, addressed the suitability of MCI's design of controls as well as the successful implementation of these measures within its Premium Data Center processes as of April 30, 2005.

"MCI is dedicated to delivering standard-setting hosting and data storage services to our enterprise customers," said MCI Vice President of Hosting Services Joe Crawford. "The successful completion of our SAS 70 Type I examination further underscores MCI's commitment to achieving excellence through controlled processes and high quality metrics for security and reliability."

Business and government customers can take advantage of Premium Data Centers in 13 major business centers across the U.S., including New York City; Los Angeles, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; Boston, Mass., Miami, Fl., and Dallas, Tex. MCI's Premium Data Centers are directly connected to its global IP network for fast, reliable, high-performance connectivity to the Internet, providing the ideal hosting environment for companies requiring an off-site facility to securely house their servers and other equipment running their IP applications. Each center also offers 24-hour on-site technical staffing as well as access to value-added services such as Load Balancing, Enhanced Monitoring and Data Backup.

Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) was established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for service organizations, such as MCI's Premium Data Centers, to provide the basis for examining a company's internal controls related to financial transaction processing and for assessing its operational measures and defined control objectives. Areas of examination for MCI's Premium Data Centers included physical access to facilities, logical access to systems including multi-layered security, network services operations and performance, and environmental controls.

MCI is currently pursuing a SAS 70 Type II examination for its Premium Data Centers, slated to be finished by year's end. The completion of the SAS 70 Type II examination will further assist MCI customers with their Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as it relates to the operational processes and systems within the Premium Data Centers.

For more than four years, MCI Enterprise Hosting has documented the controls for its operations as well as its customers' data resident within its managed hosting centers, called Smart Centers. MCI successfully completed its most recent SAS 70 Type II examination in December 2004 for its Smart Centers in Beltsville, Md., San Jose, Calif. and London, England.
