MCI's Robert T. Blakely Named Greater Washington CFO of the Year

ASHBURN, Va., June 14, 2004 - MCI, Inc. (MCIA.PK) today announced that Robert T. Blakely, MCI Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, has been named CFO of the Year by the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), Maryland Tech Council and DC Tech Council. Blakely received the award at the organizations' Eighth Annual CFO Awards banquet, held on June 10 in McLean, VA.

The award is presented annually to a CFO whose contributions to his or her company's performance and accomplishments help promote the development of the Greater Washington region's technology community. Finalists for this award included: Carole Argo of SafeNet; Eric Brown of MicroStrategy; Garrett Pierce of Orbital Sciences Corporation; and, Byron Siliezar of NII Holdings, Inc.

Accepting the award, Blakely acknowledged the tireless efforts of the entire MCI finance team and the commitment and dedication of MCI's President & CEO Michael Capellas to turning MCI around. Among the many projects his team tackled included the most extensive financial restatement ever - ensuring an accurate and transparent picture of the company's past finances, and setting the foundation for the company's future.
